Why are some countries rich and others poor, and what can be done about it? One of the forces that are perpetuating this cycle of impoverishment is IMF and the world bank. Poverty is not for ordained; it's deliberate, it's by design, and it's manufactured. If the goal of IMF is to oversee the stability of the world's monetary system and the world bank is to reduce poverty by offering assistance to middle-income and low-income countries. Why are they offering these developing countries subprime loans with pretty big stipulations built in them? Why do the world bank and IMF prohibit developing countries from nationalizing their resources? Whom would IMF and the world bank want to do these? The simple answer is they (IMF and the world bank) because they do not want these developing countries or governments to control their resources. They want to keep it in the hands of foreign investors and corporations owned mainly by the USA and the western countries. Also, these loans prohibit these poor governments or countries from subsidizing their resources because they say it will be unfair in the global market. The loans are subprime, meaning they have a high-interest rate and may never be paid off. So, these poor governments or countries spend a huge part of their national revenues trying to pay off loans that would never pay off to these rich or western world. In retrospect, poor governments or countries are the ones that develop the rich or western world. That's why the rich or western world is fighting each other over who should control parts of these poor governments by ensuring that the resources within these developing countries or governments will not benefit the public of those poor governments.
